This project focused on the Plant-Based theme, creating a creative challenge to develop objects that integrate plants into everyday life. Therefore, the project's thematic core lies in integrating the basic needs of plants—sunlight, water, and soil—with aesthetic and functional elements that allow for harmonious plant care. The convergence of these natural needs with utilitarian designs enables a synthesis of function and form.
The initial design phase involved a three-day workshop under the mentorship of Henry Julier, Director of Industrial Design at Standard Issue, and Jorge Diego Etienne, industrial designer and Director of the Design Program at Tec de Monterrey, during which I created cardboard prototypes. The simplicity and clarity of these initial forms provided the foundation for the subsequent two-month production process, where this design was translated into carved limestone and sheet steel.
"Reignite" is an expression of nature's ability to adapt and thrive in urban environments. Inspired by the concept that "life always finds a way," this innovative product seamlessly merges aesthetics with functionality by allowing water to be poured directly into it to nourish the housed plant. Its purpose is to reconnect people with nature, fostering inner peace and well-being.
As we walk along the sidewalks and observe how plants push through concrete cracks, "Reignite" serves as a reminder of nature's enduring spirit. It invites us to pause, admire, and reflect on the beauty and vitality that surrounds us. It inspires us to appreciate the resilience of life and find joy in the small details of our urban environment. In an increasingly human-dominated world, this vase offers us an opportunity to reconnect with the very essence of life.
"Reignite" turned out to be one of the projects exhibited at Wanted Design and the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in Manhattan, New York City, on the dates May 19th to May 21st, 2024.
